Tax Evasion and Tax Protestors
There is a somewhat known circle in the US of individuals trying to skirt the validity of “income tax” by attempting to justify a legitimate way to evade income taxes. One of the well known arguments is the belief of a “voluntary tax system”, which was never properly ratified, or that income tax is only for government employees, etc.
I will state, DO NOT BUY INTO THIS IDEOLOGY, as you will most certainly end up as one of our clients down the road. The Department of Justice and US Tax Courts are not legitimizing these arguments at all.
The author of a well known book regarding this subject, “Cracking the Code”, by Peter Hendrickson (a google search will provide enough info for you), was arraigned in Michigan on a 10-count indictment charging him with submitting false documents. On October 26th, 2009, a jury found Hendrickson guilty of all 10 counts, see the press release here.
While it all sounds good, be very careful of what you read, and even research. If you have already bought into this train of thought, it may not be too late, you can still resolve the issues and work towards compliance before the IRS catches up to you. If you take the necessary steps to resolve your tax problem on your own, it will always look better in the eyes of Uncle Sam.
